A major retrospective exhibition about the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama will take place this summer at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao from June 27th to October 8th, 2023
"Yayoi Kusama: desde 1945 hasta hoy" ("Yayoi Kusama: From 1945 to Now") is the largest retrospective of Yayoi Kusama (Nagano, 1929) held in the last ten years in Spain. The exhibition features approximately 200 artworks, including sculptures, paintings, installations, drawings and archive material documenting her performances and happenings. Throughout the exhibition, organized chronologically and thematically, Kusama's works are exhibited from her first drawings as a teenager during World War II to her most recent immersive pieces.

The exhibition, curated by Doryun Chong and Mika Yoshitake, with the collaboration of Lucía Agirre, showcases the artist's main themes: Radical Connection, Infinity, Death, Accumulation, Vital Energy and Cosmic Nature, which offers to the visitors a deep immersion into Kusama's obsessive universe. Through the restrospective, the narration of Kusama's life and work history reflects her desire for interconnectedness, which comes to the forefront, such as the deep questions about existence and humanity which drives her creativity, exploration and work.

The exhibition will be on view from June 27 through October 8th at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.
