The artist Heru Priyono manages to transmit through his paintings the desire to fill our lives with fun and bright colors when playing with those we love the most. His work will be part of the next VLAB group show
What would happen if the movie Toy Story was recreated by adapting it to our own tastes, our own life? Indonesian artist Heru Priyono introduces us to a new universe in which he seems to have found the key to this customization.
Playing is not just for children. Priyono shows us that it is also for foxes, pigs, cats, horses, airplanes, unicorns, lizards and surprisingly... adults. With skins of the most vibrant colors we appreciate in his work "Magic Breakfast" a family enjoying a meal outdoors in which, curiously, what we see on their plates is not new to us, but we had never seen it placed there: a toy car, a little house and a puzzle can become a metaphor that tells us: feeding on play makes us more fun.
The artist is here to remind us of this, so that we break barriers and stop attributing certain actions that only bring us happiness to a specific age. The ridiculous thing is not to play, it is to be ashamed of doing it
Normally, therefore, when we have fun we rejoice, and if we rejoice a lot we achieve happiness. The artist is here to remind us of this, so that we break barriers and stop attributing certain actions that only bring us happiness to a specific age. The ridiculous thing is not to play, it is to be ashamed of doing it.
In his paintings there is no loneliness, and although the protagonist has no company at that moment, he is always surrounded by tiny characters who portray that inner world in which one can always take refuge and feel accompanied. As Priyono says "Art is part of my survival" and he has demonstrated it with those colors that transmit us to an endless party of acrylic on canvas.
