First large scale solo exhibition in Japan in 27 years devoted to British artist David Hockney

The David Hockney exhibition will be held at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Tokyo from July 15th to November 5th, 2023

David Hockney, the celebrated British artist known as one of the most prolific and important artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, currently resides in Normandy, France. On the occasion of his 80th birthday, a retrospective of the artist's lifetime and work was held in 2017 in England, France and New York (USA).

For the first time in the last 27 years, a major solo exhibition of the artist's work will be held in Japan. Hockney is a versatile artist who has created in the last 60 years prints, paintings, drawings, photographs, and even digital art in which he explores nature, landscapes, and human relationships.

This exhibition features more than 120 works, ranging from early masterpieces painted on the west coast of the United States to the most recent works including the “Arrival of Spring” series of landscapes to a series of large-scale paintings created during the Covid-19 lockdown. This exhibition will be the most comprehensive exhibition ever held in Japan about the artist.

This exhibition will be the most comprehensive exhibition ever held in Japan about the artist.
